Será o começo do fim? E Deb, o que será dela? Aquela Deb que conhecemos morreu?

When Showtime's Dexter returns in June, two new faces will be joining Michael C. Hall,Jennifer Carpenter and company.

Charlotte Rampling (The Duchess) and Sean Patrick Flanery (Boondock Saints) have been tapped to recur on the eighth and potentially final season of DexterThe Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Rampling will play a neuro-psychiatrist who works with young psychopaths and profiles criminals in unorthodox ways, as first reported by EW.

Flanery, meanwhile, will portray Jacob Elroy, an ex-cop and owner of a Miami-set PI firm.

Speaking to reporters earlier this month at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, Showtime entertainment president David Nevins said a final decision on Dexter's future likely would come closer to the show's June 30 return. Executive producer Scott Buck, meanwhile, said the writers were approaching next season with the finish line in clear sight.

"We are absolutely writing it with an end in sight, but if we get told otherwise somewhere along the way, we'll take it in a different direction. But we are definitely working toward the finale of the series," he told THR.

Word on whether Yvonne Strahovski will return, meanwhile, is still to be determined.

Rampling is repped by Diamond Management; Flanery is with Inphenate and Barns, Morris, Yorn.

Do Indie Wire: The Next Season of 'Dexter' Will Be the Show's Last (at Least According to Les Moonves)

The seventh season of "Dexter" wrapped on December 16, having introduced one major change that somehow didn't end up feeling all that different by the finale's end. The long life that "Dexter" has enjoyed on Showtime hasn't done the show any favors in terms of its need to maintain the status quo of its premise -- Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is a forensics expert by day, serial killer by night who always has to be on the verge of being exposed without actually being exposed, because that would disrupt the series. It's one of the reason's the show's felt stuck in stasis in the last few years, even with the recent developments involving Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) -- no serious consequences could come for Dexter until an end was in sight.

When "Dexter" was renewed for a seventh and eighth season in November of 2011, many assumed that the show's final arc had been set -- except that Showtime has refused to confirm the now upcoming eighth season, set to start on Sunday, June 30, as the last. However, Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of Showtime's parent company CBS Corp., has been less hesitant. According to Broadcast & Cable and Entertainment Weekly, he referred to the upcoming season of "Dexter" as the final one at a conference yesterday: "We have Ray Donovan coming on, with Liev Schreiber, which comes on with Dexter‘s last season starting in June."

Slip up or spilling of the beans? Showtime has elected not to comment on or confirm Moonves' statement. While the series does seem to running on fumes, narratively, its ratings were higher this past season than ever, making the prospect of a semi-graceful exit a little less certain. It's obviously a valuable property for Showtime, and one they're using to boost and draw attention to a new, untested series. "Homeland" has become a hit and an award-magnet for the network, but with "Weeds" over and "Dexter" coasting toward a yet-undetermined end, it's going to have to bear the burden of being the network's flagship series.

Yvonne Strahovski returning to 'Dexter': Have questions? -- EXCLUSIVE
Tags: Dexter
Yvonne-Strahovski.jpg

Yvonne Strahovski is officially returning to Dexter for the show’s eighth season.

The actress is set to reprise her role in a multi-episode arc this summer as Hannah McKay, the gorgeous killer florist. Last season, the Hannah became Dexter’s twisted love interest and a major thorn in his side. When we last saw her in the seventh season finale, Hannah had escaped from prison, and Dex was seemingly lucky to get away from her. “We both knew it would come to this, one of us dead or behind bars,” Dexter said. With Hannah returning, we suspect this time one of them (or both?) won’t escape so easily.

Have questions? We’re chatting with the former Chuck star on Twitter and you can follow along. The interview starts at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PST. Start hitting me up with questions now at@james_hibberd using the hashtag #YvonneDexter and follow Strahovski at @Y_Strahovski.Dexter returns June 30.

More to come…

'Dexter' scoop: Showtime officially confirms final season
Tags: Dexter
Dexter.jpg

It’s finally officially official: Dexter season 8 will be the serial killer thriller’s last season. For real. For sure. For certain 100 percent.

Showtime has confirmed the leakiest secret in the TV industry Thursday by announcing this summer’s outing will be Dexter Morgan’s final trip to his kill table. The decision was widely speculated and hinted for months. Even Showtime’s parent company CEO Les Moonvescouldn’t resist slipping the news into a recent interview. This is the first time the network has publicly confirmed the news. The network also released a new preview of the final season (below)

The move will bring to a conclusion a pioneering basic cable drama and Showtime’s first major original hit drama. The show’s ratings have remarkably grown for each season. Yet even die-hard fans have been longing for the show to wrap up Dex’s journey in a satisfying manner, especially after the sixth season concluded with Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) learning her beloved brother (Michael C. Hall) is a serial killer.

Yet after last fall’s seventh season outing returned to record ratings once again (its finale hit a series-high 2.8 million viewers for its first telecast), some wondered if Showtime would have the courage to pull the trigger. The network had some help making the creatively tough choice since Hall’s contract is up this year and the actor agreed that the story was ready for an ending (here’s our exclusive interview with Hall reacting to the news).

Showtime also released a new clip from the show, which returns June 30. The season includes the return of Yvonne Strahovski as Dexter’s twisted love interest, along with veteran British actress Charlotte Rampling in a key role as a neuro-psychiatrist who works with serial killers.

A oitava é a última! \o/
