Reações dos indicados: in English. 03

Penelope Cruz, drama actress, film "Volver": "Wow, I feel so excited,

I cried so much when I heard my name because I was trying not to think

about it for a month. Everyone is telling you not to think about it,

but it's hard. Pedro [Almodovar] has made an amazing movie and it's

very special that it happened on a Pedro movie because he's a very

special person in my life.

Dolce & Gabbana threw me a party until three in the morning so I

haven't slept since last night. But I didn't drink because if I did I

wouldn't be able to wake up.

I'm going to Spain next week to celebrate with my family. This is the

first time it's happened to a woman from my country. I found out in a

hotel bedroom, on a bed with 15 people, eating pancakes!"

"When Harvey and I had met in a restaurant, he said he had something

for me, typical Harvey," said Bryan Adams, whose contribution to the

"Bobby" soundtrack earned him a nom for original song. "I had to think

about what kind of music would be appropriate and the only thing I

could think of would be a hymn. I wrote it in the Caribbean, while I

was visiting these little churches. What occurred to me while I was

down there was the devotion these people have to God and their faith. I

think after witnessing such a horrible thing (RFK's death), you have to

search inside for solace, and if you believe in something, your faith

will get you through it."

* * *

"Babel" composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who won the score Oscar for

"Brokeback Mountain" and the song Globe last year, said he is thrilled

to be part of a new generation of film composers. "I'm a big fan of

(fellow nominees) Clint Mansell and Carlos Siliotto. Movie music is

moving beyond the traditional and it's wonderful that it's being

appreciated," Santaolalla said from his native Argentina, where he was

finishing several projects and getting started on Walter Salles'

version of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road."

* * *

Kate Winslet, actress nominee for "Little Children": "My husband

[director Sam Mendes] and I were dropping my son off at preschool, I

switched my phone off in a classroom full of 3-year olds, the second I

turned the phone on it was Sam, screaming congratulations. It's so

great -- you never get used to this stuff. We will probably have a

quiet little celebration at home, some champagne. I have to be honest,

it feels really special, this film consumed me so completely.

I was surprised and overwhelmed to see the best picture nom. This is a

film that was really really tough to make because of the subject and

the characters we had to play. I'm a little bit speechless -- it's

great to get the screenplay nomination.

This is an extraordinary role for a woman to play. I love and prefer

playing characters who are less than pretty, it's much more interesting

when you look like crap, it's much more fun than looking great and

oddly less pressure -- that's who the character is; make her look

worse, bigger hair, bushier brows, no makeup.

I have so much respect for Todd Field and the whole experience of

making the film has been such an inspiration, it's an emotional

relationship drama, films like that don't often hang around and I'm so

proud it's holding its own against some brilliant movies. I'm so

grateful to the HFPA for recognizing a film this dark and challenging

and I'm unbelievebaly happy."

* * *

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, film director, "Babel": "I am thrilled. I

was at a party and I arrived at my house at 5:30 and was surprised to

find my wife watching TV. When I heard my name I couldn't believe it. I

wasn't expecting her to be up watching TV, but my wife jumped up and

gave me a hug and I couldn't understand what was happening. This has

been such a huge journey and a huge challenge that we've confronted.

It's a blessing, it's a gift. I am honestly humbled. I never expected

such recognition. I am so excited, I am shaking. I am really thrilled

by it."

* * *

Speaking with the aid of an interpreter, "Babel's" other supporting

actress nominee, Rinko Kikuchi, confessed, "I've been working as an

actress in Japan for 11 years on movies that were sort of underground

and not as mainstream, so the experience hasn't hit me yet. I was just

excited about the chance to work with Alejandro (Gonzalez Inarritu); it

had nothing to do with awards or the level of recognition I'm getting

now. I should call my mother and father to let them know!"

* * *

Jay Roach, producer, comedy film, "Borat": "I just checked my email --

Jim Gianopolous gave us first notice. We've been calling each other.

Sacha's in London -- he won a comedy writers award last night. I just

talked to Larry who's completely excited.

It is so rare for a comedy where people are laughing that hard to be

noticed for awards. What Sacha's doing is completely new; it's fresh

and original and audiences are experiencing one of the funniest movies

ever. His performance is a high wire act -- there's so much suspense to

what he's doing. It's a new genre and kind of groundbreaking .

It's amazing a studio made something so self-deprecating, so fresh and controversial."

* * *

Holly Wiersma, producer, drama film, "Bobby": I'm in New York and I got

a phone call from Michelle Krumm, head of acquisitions at Weinstein. I

was completely surprised and I'm so happy for Emilio because every

frame of this movie is him.

Hopefully it willl stay in theaters longer and people will go see it and see what RFK stood for."

* * *

Larry Charles, director of "Borat" : "My blackberry started buzzing at

about 6:30 in the morning. Jim Gianopolous was the first email I got

saying congratulations. It's the first time a film I've been involved

with has been nominated. I'm very proud of Sacha. To have all the

dominoes fall your way and have it become a social phenomen and to have

this be the culmination is exciting.

I have no plans whatsoever to celebrate -- I'm just trying to savor the

moment. I think all the films are great and I think they actually

picked the best films in that category this year. The competition is

fierce but our movie has done a great job and it has a good a chance as

any. "

* * *

Guillermo Arriaga, writer of "Babel": "I was sleeping here in my house in Mexico City -- my agent called and my wife woke me up.

I tried not to have a single expectation for these things because then

I might get hurt but I'm confident of the movie and proud of it. I've

never been to Japan or Morocco, I had to write on pure imagination.

Fortunately people around the world are responding to it. It's a movie

that makes a point about miscommunication. People have much more in

common than differences.

I'm gonna take my family to have lunch together and have a big Mexican meal -- share it with the people I love."

* * *

Adriana Barrazza, supporting actress nominee for "Babel": "I was

watching E! on TV and I missed the movie nominations. Paramount people

knocked on my door and told me, they told me in English and I didn't'

understand very well. I cried and cried and I told my daughter in

Argentina. My husband and I already celebrated this morning kissing

each other a lot.

This afternoon I'm going to a cocktail party with Salma Hayek and

another screening party for 'Babel,' then taking a plane tonight to go

to Dubai."

* * *

John Lasseter, director of "Cars": "I'm so excited the HFPA would think

there's enough quality animated films being made these days to create

the category, and to be nommed for the first ever is such a thrill.

'Cars' is the first Pixar film I've directed since 'Toy Story 2' and

this nomination is special because it was a banner year in the

animation industry. I love that the industry is so healthy."

* * *

A perennial nominee for original score, composer Hans Zimmer found out

about his nomination for "The Da Vinci Code" in the midst of recording

the score for "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." "I don't

think I have time to celebrate, I'll probably just get drunk later on.

When I read the book, I found it to be full of exposition, but I felt

that maybe I could help the story on film. I'm always surprised. You

know, you work within the confines of your own paranoia."

* * *

Rock 'n' roller Sheryl Crow learned of her original song nom from "Home

of the Brave" upon landing in New York on a flight from Nashville. "I

didn't even know they were announcing today, so it was a sweet

surprise. When I saw the movie, the images were so alarming and

realistic, I felt very stirred and compelled to write for the song for

the end credits."

* * *

Forest Whitaker, actor for "The Last King of Scotland": "I'm feeling

good. It's a good day man. I can't say I anticipated it, I worked

really hard, I tried to do the best I can and the fact critics have

been so positive has been nice. Phone started ringing this morning. I

thought it was a great opportunity to play a great character.

Kevin wasn't sure I was the right person to play the part. I thought

that the role was really complicated. It was cool, I got to go to

Africa. I have always wanted to go and I have never been. It was a no

brainer. The only question I had was am I gonna perpetuate more images

of mad people of color. They've been painted in such a way. In the

beginning, I tried to show some clarity and paint a different picture.

Things aren't as black and white as people wanted. I'm gonna get with

some of my family and friends, go out to dinner, and go through the day

like Snoopy. I can honestly say I never would've imagined the critical

response. I'm proud of my performance, this movie is a word of mouth

movie, the regular public. The studio is hoping the nominations get the

film in the public eye, and hopefully they'll step up and promote it

more. I've been overwhelmed by the whole process. I'm trying to enjoy

every single moment."

* * *

Jennifer Hudson, nominated for "Dreamgirls": "The TV told me. I was

actually getting ready to sing during an interview for 'The Today

Show.' I was so nervous but anxious and before they even got my name we

were screaming and hollering, didn't wanna mess up my makeup, never

really got myself together. I was out there and didn't even know what I

was saying. I was feeling so many different emotions at one time. Wow,

with my family, every time I get good news, my record deal, the role,

I'm always away so I'd like to go home and celebrate with my family.

Chicago is home.

It's just been like a dream. From the director, Bill Condon, who put

his heart in it and did such an unbelievable job, nice to see a black

film be received the way it has been internationally. I definitely give

Idol credit because had it not been for them I would've missed out on

this incredible opportunity. It makes tears well up in your eyes and

you appreciate it even more. To put together singing and acting, I was

blessed to be able to work with an unbelievable director. I'm watching

Beyonce and Eddie and Jamie and learning from them. I would love to

team up with Beyonce outside of the film. It never even crossed my mind

how critics would respond. I just wanted to give it my all and do the

film proud."

* * *

Henry Krieger, songwriter, "Dreamgirls": "I've won a Grammy, been

nommed for Grammy work, but this is my first film, so a Golden Globe is

a whole new world and I'm very grateful to them. It's mind-boggling."

* * *

Jason Reitman, writer/director, "Thank You For Smoking": "I was lying

in bed, Melissa from Fox called me and told me the incredible news, and

it came as a huge surprise. I was in my 5 a.m. squash game and I was

rudely interrupted. This is the real deal, people say it's a complete

surprise but for me it's true. I'd been trying to make this for six

years. It spoke to me as a writer-director like no other piece of

material. Non apologetic, politically incorrect and hilarious.

Aaron is one of the most talented actors of his generation and what

really excited me was to see him get the accolade he deserves. I knew

the film would love or die on the shoulders of Nick Naylor and it can

only be attributed to how well he played that role.

Funny, my Dad's on a plane. I don't think he knows."

* * *

Aaron Eckhart, "Thank You For Smoking": "People called me crazy for

doing the movie, Jason was not well known, and there are other things

to do. The writing was so strong and Jason's vision for the movie was

absolutely clear, I felt I couldn't pass this up as an actor."

* * *

Peter Saraff, producer, "Little Miss Sunshine": "I was in Albuquerque,

New Mexico and I watched it on CNN television. It's been an amazing

ride. It feels like a wild journey and we had a ton of fun making the

film. Unfortunately, we're (the cast and crew) all scattered into the

wind. I am gonna see Arkin, he's in NM, sending bottles of champagne,

Abigail is in Tokyo, Tony is in Australia, Steve is in R.I. Greg is in

LA. Plenty of opportunities to see each other but not today. "

* * *

Mark Wahlberg, supporting actor nominee, "The Departed": I was in New

York and my agent Ari called me and said 'I think you got nominated'

and I said 'you wanna call me back when you know?' He's trying to be

more and more like the character on Entourage every day.

Duffy, the police consultant called me to congratulate me. I'm going to take my mother out to dinner. "

* * *

Ben Affleck, nominated for "Hollywoodland": "I play George Reeves and

it's funny, he really craved this kind of attention and I think he

would've really loved to go to the parties.

For me, any performance that is worth anything is predicated on the

script. I need to have a good script, it benefits me as an actor and I

learned a tremendous amount from my co-stars. I was really lucky to

work with them. We just missed each other on the phone. "

* * *

Maggie Gyllenhaal, nominated for "Sherrybaby": "To be nominated for a

movie like this which is so tiny, is great. I helped get it made and

financed and distributed. I feel so proud. Hopefully this will alow

more people to see it. Kate Winslet called to congratulate me.

It's the first night of Hanukkah so my Jewish mom and I might come over

and light the candles. I'm a new mom so celebrating won't be too crazy.

"

* * *

Marcia Cross, actress for "Desperate Housewives": "I wasn't expecting

to be nominated so I had my manager and my publicist leave a message on

my cell phone. I got to celebrate with my husband beore he headed off

to work. No alcohol involved because I'm very pregnant.

To be recognized three times in a row and supported by the HFPA is

great. The show is on fire this year, the writers have it together and

the show is funny and dark and mysterious and delivering on the promise

of the first season. As an actor, you have to count your blessings

everyday."

Vide a matéria, retirada do The Envelope, de Tom O'Neill:

'Babel' and 'The Queen' get a post-Globes boost

Gitesh Pandya

of BoxOfficeGuru.com gave us this report on how Golden Globes benefited

some contenders at the box office. Here's what he says:

"Babel' date='" which led all films with 7 Globe nods, enjoyed the best box

office boost on the weekend after the nominations were announced. Since

expanding nationwide, the film had been dropping by more than 45% each

week. But thanks to the Globes, it jumped up 8% last weekend despite

losing more than one-third of its theaters. That repped a sensational

84% boost in its per-theater average.

"The Queen" lost 23% of its theaters but saw its average ease by a

scant 1%. Miramax has done a terrific job with the release of this

awards contender enjoying 11 consecutive weeks in the Top 20. Some

Globe wins and Oscar nods could allow the distrib to re-expand the pic

in January when audience attention will shift from holiday films to

awards contenders.

With so many high-profile holiday films entering the marketplace in

wide release, it will be hard for some of these Globe-nominated

pictures to hold onto their screens, but they do still have long-term

potential which could allow them to stay relevant well past New Years

weekend.

Pena maior é que aqui no Brasil seja assim também. Só que aqui nem indicações ao Oscar dão jeito' date=' porque o pessoal só houve falar quando o Oscar passa na Tv aberta, ou quando o Jornal Nacional fala alguma coisa. Nós somos a minoria. 04 [/quote']
