O site da SET já está de volta ao UOL. http://www2.uol.com.br/setonline/index.shtml O problema com a Premiere Portuguesa é que ela chega sempre muito atrasada aqui no Brasil, mas que é uma pena ver a SET chegar nesse atual estado, lá isso é.

Caro Paulo Obrigada pela resenha, mas me desculpe, não concordo. Assisti ao filme na Mostra Internacional de São Paulo e tive uma ótima diversão. Acho que em geral os críticos vão ao cinema buscar a perfeição e achar buracos, ao invés de buscar a pura e simples diversão. E o público que assistiu o filme na Mostra também gostou, tanto que a avalição de 315 votos, se não estou enganada, e que fou publicada no site da Mostra dava o filme uma nota acima de 4, a máxima é 5. É fácil destacar o carisma dos atores (Russell Crowe e Albert Finney), a beleza das paisagens (a Provence francesa), mas é empobrecedor reduzir o alcance do filme, vendo em Um Bom Ano apenas mais um na série de títulos com que Hollywood mostra a transformação de personagens neuróticos e competitivos que, pelos motivos mais variados, tomam consciência do que representa a vida deles - e mudam. Um Bom Ano parece típico da tendência. Russell Crowe faz o cafajeste da Bolsa de Valores de Londres, um sujeito sem o mínimo de ética e preocupado apenas em mostrar que é o melhor, a qualquer preço. Inesperadamente, Max Skinner (Max-milhão) recebe a notícia de que seu tio morreu e ele, como parente mais próximo, herdou sua vinícola na França. Disposto a ganhar dinheiro (e a desfazer-se rapidamente da propriedade), Max viaja para o local onde passou as férias mais importantes da sua vida, terminando por tomar consciência do canalha em que se transformou - e mudando para melhor. Teoria do cinema de Scott Canalha, Max Skinner sabe desde a primeira cena que é e o tema do filme não é a sua transformação e, sim, outra coisa. Há tempos, Ridley Scott vem construindo uma espécie de teoria do cinema, à qual os críticos não prestam atenção. As cenas de ação de Gladiador não eram só espetaculares. Elas envolviam uma crítica do diretor ao próprio conceito do espetáculo, usando o pão e circo das arenas romanas para debater o pão e circo patrocinado por Hollywood, na atualidade. Tente ver Um Bom Ano por este ângulo e o filme cresce bastante com isso. Apenas um exemplo. Vá lá que sejam - dois. Numa cena, o francês que faz o vinho no terroir que Skinner herdou faz uma referência a Marcel Proust, às mulheres segundo o autor de Em Busca do Tempo Perdido. Este mesmo personagem tem um cãozinho chamado Tati, que remete a Jacques Tati, o criador de M. Hulot (e cenas do filme As Férias do Sr. Hulot aparecem num clipe quando Crowe está no restaurante com Marion Cotillard, que vai ilustrar, digamos assim, o perfume proustiano do relato). Não se trata de simples relação de causa-e-efeito, mas daquilo que os franceses chamam de ´clin d´oeil´. Sabe, quando a gente dá uma piscadinha para uma pessoa, quando acaba de dizer alguma coisa, ou quando vai dizer, para estabelecer uma cumplicidade? Um Bom Ano é todo feito assim. Proust não entra só por causa do que disse sobre as mulheres, mas também por causa do tempo perdido e reencontrado, embora a madeleine que Max encontra no jardim da casa (o copo e o charuto abandonados) levem a uma outra coisa - uma estrutura narrativa à Morangos Silvestres, de Ingmar Bergman, na qual passado e presente coexistem na mesma imagem (e embora seja o som que, às vezes, faça essa passagem). O tempo é um grande personagem O tempo é o grande personagem de Um Bom Ano e, por isso, o filme começa com todos aqueles letreiros (algumas vindimas atrás, muitas vindimas à frente). Essas cenas iniciais estabelecem a convenção, revelam o tio e sugerem a gênese do homem em que Max se transformou, mas também fornecem o ponto para que os dois atores exibam a exuberância dos seus estilos de representação - a non chalance de Finney, a arrogância de Crowe. Por que construir o filme ´para´ os atores? Para falar de cinema, de arte, de vida. O enólogo contratado para dar seu parecer sobre o terroir diz que aquela terra não vale nada, mas como, se ela produz, artesanalmente, o melhor vinho do mundo, o que Max custa a descobrir? O falso e o verdadeiro, mas não o trivial dessa abordagem. Ridley Scott com toda certeza viu Morangos Silvestres, de Bergman (e o filme que o antecedeu, Senhorita Júlia, do também sueco Alf Sjoberg). Viu, não há dúvida, Sideways - Entre Umas e Outras, de Alexander Payne, e talvez tenha visto Mondovino, de Jonathan Nossiter, porque a oposição entre os estilos americano e francês de encarar o terroir é um dos subtemas de Um Bom Ano. O vinho para falar de vida, a arte do vinho para falar da arte de viver - e fazer filmes. Max faz a grande descoberta olhando o filme de Tati, a queda de M. Hulot na água, que remete à sua queda na piscina, só que em vez de água ela está cheia de barro. A partir daí, tudo fica mais fácil - a descoberta do amor e da possibilidade de uma outra vida, é verdade que ameaçada pelo estresse (a fala final do amigo, pelo telefone), mas na qual vale investir. Tudo isso se faz por meio de uma conversa sobre arte. Max observa que o chefe guarda seu Van Gogh no cofre e expõe a cópia, à qual não dá importância justamente porque sabe que ela não vale nada. Qual é o sentido de guardar um Van Gogh no cofre? Deve ser o mesmo de não querer fazer cinema para o público. O risco é, na busca pelo diálogo, cometer o engano de falsificar a realidade, de trapacear. É o que o espectador descobre genialmente por meio da secretária, no desfecho que é melhor não contar, no encontro dela com o rapper e seu empresário. É o arremate perfeito para um filme que comporta múltiplas leituras. Não fique na mais trivial. E, acima de tudo, desfrute o prazer que bons vinhos e bons filmes, como Um Bom Ano, podem proporcionar. Who's the perfect daddy, Russell? by BAZ BAMIGBOYE Last updated at 10:10am on 20th October 2006 Fatherhood before films: Russell Crowe wants to get his priorities right Russell Crowe is very clear about what kind of father he wants to be - "present, not absent" - even if it means turning down major movie roles. He and his wife, Danielle, have two sons: Charlie, a rambunctious toddler, who will be three in the New Year; and four-month-old Tennyson. With school looming on the horizon, Russell is having to think about his future career. He's already ruled out movies that take half a year to make. "I'm not into this thing of signing on for ever and not knowing when something is going to finish," the Oscar-winning star told me. "I need to know for my wife and kids when I'm going to be around. And just out of my own self-interest, it gets really tedious sometimes being away from home for that long. "I can have the family with me, but I also have to keep a balance. Is it the right place for them to be? Is it healthy for Charlie?" One project which proved perfect for mixing career and family was shooting A Good Year on location in Provence. He and his pal Ridley Scott had met in Los Angeles to go through several movie ideas. When it came to "the wine project", Russell noted that Scott became exceedingly animated. And so it was that they found themselves taking over the Chateau La Canorgue in Bonnieux during last year's wine harvest. A Good Year, based on a best-selling novel by Peter Mayle, shows the actor's caring, sharing side. There's no blood and gore, though Russell's character, Max (named after Maximus in Gladiator), does inflict some serious financial wounds upon his competitors. There's light comedy mixed in with the drama and Russell has a deft touch, particularly when he gets out of the City of London after his elderly uncle (Albert Finney) leaves him the picturesque chateau - and its vineyard. A friend in Hollywood has described the picture, admiringly, as "porn for women". Russell and his family had a ball living in Provence. He was also much taken by the local rosé wine; so taken that he shipped 17 cases home to Australia. "It's a good tipple," he told me. But not every location is going to be suitable for the family. He has just shot a couple of movies back to back in the States: the drama Tenderness, for which he was on set for just nine days, and American Gangster, which took him 11 weeks. Next is the remake of the Glenn Ford classic 3: 10 To Yuma with Christian Bale, and that's an acceptable three-month shoot. "A big part of conversations Danielle and I are having is where are we going to be, and where's Charlie going to school," he says. "What are we going to do in terms of restrictions on work? It's in my mind that I don't want to be an absent dad when my son is school age. "I want to be the dad who takes him to school in the morning and picks him up in the afternoon — which makes making movies very difficult.' Russell told me how, when Peter O'Toole's son, Lorcan, was of school age, the actor changed his work life and if a movie didn't fit in with the school schedule, he didn't do it. "I'm not interested in being the parent that's always away. I'm not interested in being that sort of dad. I want to be present all the time," Russell told me. Those work-family thoughts were going through his mind when he decided to withdraw from the epic film everyone thought he was going to make with Baz Luhrmann, co-starring Nicole Kidman as his leading lady. "I can't get into a gig that's going to go on and on and on. You can't make other plans. The last movie he shot took 16 months," said Russell, insisting that he and Luhrmann remain good pals and will work together again. Then there's the dosh factor. Russell observed that the as-yet-untitled Luhrmann picture (it shoots early in the New Year, and will now star Hugh Jackman) has a big budget, but everyone reduced their price, so more money could be spent on other aspects of the film. "Everyone has to take a hit, I understand that. But I didn't understand why my hit had to be bigger than everybody else's," he said.

Pic is set to start lensing next month. Lionsgate struck the high-profile deal with Ryan Kavanaugh's Relativity Media, which decided to finance the $70 million film after Sony put the project into turnaround earlier in the summer, forcing helmer James Mangold and producing partner (and wife) Cathy Konrad to look elsewhere for coin. Lionsgate will spend a minimum of $30 million on prints and advertising. Generally speaking, the indie studio only spends $15 million-$20 million on wide releases. Studio execs said the decision to push the boundaries reflects the continued growth of Lionsgate, pointing to bigger-budget pics like "Crank" and "Rogue," as well as to the studio's first-ever Oscar win for best pic, "Crash". Stuart Beattie, Michael Brandt and Derek Haas penned the script for "Yuma." Storyline revolves around a desperado who is caught by a sheriff determined to bring the outlaw in. Sheriff's plans go awry when the desperado's accomplices stage an ambush. Pic, Mangold and Konrad's follow-up to "Walk the Line," originally attracted the attention of Tom Cruise. The project is a remake of a 1957 Glenn Ford movie, which was itself based on a story by the much adapted Elmore Leonard. The 57 version follows a rancher named Dan Evans who is persuaded to escort a recently captured outlaw leader to the nearest train station where he'll be sent to Yuma for trial. The pair end up holed up in an old hotel and under siege. It actually sounds a lot like a cowboy version of 16 Blocks. Mangold's new version has landed at Lionsgate after being dumped by Columbia Pictures. At one point Eric Bana and Tom Cruise were rumored to be in the running to star, but now Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are attached. Joining them is the geek-loved actor Alan Tudyk, who some might remember from Serenity but more probably remember as the pirate in Dodgeball. I like the idea of Russell Crowe in a heavy-hitting, siege-western. Except for the great Costner movie Open Range a few years ago, the cowboy genre has been basically dead for awhile. If Costner couldn't bring it back, maybe Crowe can.

Grandes diretores são destaques do Festival do Ri´ Por Redação, com agências de notícias - do Rio de Janeiro O Festival do Rio vai exibir alguns dos melhores filmes da atual safra do cinema mundial em sua 8ª edição, a partir do próximo dia 21 e até 5 de outubro. Os novos longas de Pedro Almodóvar (Volver, com Penélope Cruz), Robert Altman (A Prairie Home Companion, com Meryl Streep e Woody Harrelson), Brian De Palma (o ótimo Dália Negra, com Scarlett Johansson), Ken Loach (The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Palma de Ouro em Cannes este ano), Oliver Stone (As Torres Gêmeas, com Nicolas Cage) e Stephen Frears (The Queen, prêmio de melhor atriz para Helen Mirren no Festival de Veneza) são alguns dos destaques do evento cinematográfico mais festivo do país. The movie, directed by Ridley Scott for Universal Pictures, is based on the life of drug kingpin-turned-informant Frank Lucas (Washington), who shipped heroin back to the U.S. in the coffins of soldiers killed in Vietnam. Lucas was brought to justice by lawman Richie Roberts (Crowe). The two then worked together to expose criminals on the drug circuit. Brolin will play crooked NYPD cop Det. Trupo, a greedy narcotics investigator who piggybacks on Roberts' investigation in order to bleed Lucas dry. Bale digs spurs into 'Yuma' redo By Borys Kit and Tatiana Siegel Christian Bale is close to a deal to star opposite Russell Crowe in James Mangold's "3:10 to Yuma." Relativity Media is stepping in to finance the film, which has been without a home since Columbia Pictures put it into turnaround earlier this summer. The move is certain to give Mangold a sigh of relief as the Western remake is taking a tortuous journey to the screen. Columbia spent four years developing the film, which it had hoped to start filming this summer. Tom Cruise had been circling the film for his follow-up to "Mission: Impossible III," with Eric Bana rumored to be in pursuit of a role as well. But by June, Cruise and Bana were no longer in the mix, and Columbia put "Yuma" in turnaround, leaving producer Cathy Konrad and Mangold to shop the project to various studios. Fox 2000 was believed to be the front-runner based on Konrad and Mangold's relationship with topper Elizabeth Gabler, who championed their "Walk the Line." Now, Relativity plans to finance the film, either in whole or in part, and is currently in negotiations with Columbia. Relativity has not yet lined up a distributor. Relativity sees the movie as a one-off project, separate from its other business with Sony, Columbia's parent company. In May, Relativity sank $385 million into 11 Columbia films, a move that came on the heels of its investment of $400 million in January into the production costs of an additional 11 of the studio's films. "Yuma" is based on the 1957 film that starred Glenn Ford as captured outlaw Ben Wade, who finds himself in the custody of small-time rancher Dan Evans. The rancher is secretly trying to take the outlaw to a railway station to catch a train to Yuma for the outlaw's court date. A battle of wills ensues. Mangold's take sees Crowe as the outlaw and Bale as the rancher. Michael Brandt, Derek Haas and Stuart Beattie have all contributed to the screenplay.
