Concordo.

Ator Joaquin Phoenix quer deixar o cinema

Ator Joaquin Phoenix quer deixar o cinema

Resposta, do site Live News:

Why Joaquin Phoenix shouldn't give up his day job

The success rate of actors forging their careers into rock is alarmingly low, but that hasn’t stopped Hollywood heart throb Joaquin Phoenix tossing away his acting career to pick up the Fender Stratocaster.

Following the lead of Russell Crowe’s hard-to-take-serious acoustic rock outfit Thirty Odd Foot Of Grunts, and Jared Leto’s neither-here-nor-there emo group Thirty Seconds To Mars, Joaquin wants to carve out his own slice of the less than lucrative actor-come-rocker pie.

Attending a Paul Newman charity benefit, the Signs actor made the surprise announcement: "I want to take this opportunity... also to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor... I'm not doing films anymore," he told Extra’s Jerry Penacoli.
Stunned by the news, Penacoli thought Phoenix was kidding.
"Are you serious?" he asked.
"Yeah. I'm working on my music. I'm done. I've been through that," Phoenix replied.
It’s definitely a bold move on Phoenix’s part, considering the graveyard of rock-hopefuls he will be potentially joining:

Scarlett Johhanssen: Released the album Anywhere I lay in my head in May this year. But considering the critical response, it looks like Scarlett was laying in a world of atonal sub-pop meanderings that wouldn’t have been out of place on a Yoko Ono B-Sides retrospective.

Russell Crowe: His band, Thirty Odd Foot Of Grunts (later to be changed to the acronym-friendly The Ordinary Fear Of God so they didn’t need to repaint the road cases) a broody acoustic land of deep, introspective lyrics and barrel-loads of beards, just didn’t have quite the cut through that the gutsy Russ would have hoped.

I quote, and rest my case, from the TOFOG standard “High Horse Honey”.

I know you're a good lookin' honey baby
Blind man could see
You better take a look at your personality
Fore you start hanging shit on me
You can't live your life on the fact you're pretty
Hold it up like your head of the class
Cause the good Lord above who parted the waters
Will soon start spreading your ass.

Keanu Reeves: Bass players are a bit of an extra thumb in rock bands – with the majority of 4-stringers tucking neatly behind the guitarist to double their parts an octave down. And for Keanu “Dogstar” Reeves, his adoring fans would come to gigs with screams for the doughy-eyed good looks of the dark horse Matrix star and drown out the music in the process – especially his hidden bass talents. He tried it again in a band called ‘Becky’, but it turned out his band members cracked the shits with his lack of commitment and Keanu was forced out onto the cold streets to earn millions of dollars in films again.

Steven Seagal: As the Akido master, and star of 90’s action classic Under Siege had his career slowly relegated to the straight-to-DVD release section, the ever expanding Seagal’s interests turned to the blues band Thunderbox. Although taking a look at this clip, it looks like Seagal doesn’t quite have the masterful touch his heart stopping martial arts did.

Jared Leto: The Panic Room and Fight Club star took off on his musical career with the paint-by-numbers bubble gum Emo stylings of Thirty Seconds To Mars – which have had a pretty successful career so far – putting aside the glaringly obvious detail that they suck if you aren’t 14.
They got sued by Virgin records for $30 million in August for failing to deliver a third album within a certain time period, the case is still pending. Turns out, you can’t turn on the crap tap at a minute’s notice. It takes time to brew.

So, Joaquin, I wish you good luck on your quest. Here’s hoping you can find the hidden alchemy that can make actors come good with their musical pursuits – but I wouldn’t drop a dollar on the odds.

preachertop-440x330.jpg

Good news for comic book fans. It looks like Preacher might finally make its way to the big screen. Columbia Pictures has picked up the rights to adapt the series into a feature film, with American Beauty/Road to Perdition director Sam Mendes attached to helm the project.

Preacher has a long history of false starts, despite having a loyal following among geek filmmakers. Originally set-up at Kevin Smith’s View Askew with a $25 million budget and James Marsden attached as the title character, the project fell into limbo and later found light as an HBO television series helmed by Mark Steven Johnson (fans were not happy about this one). When the one-hour series was first announced in November 2006, Pretty in Pink director Howard Deutch was named to helm the pilot episode. Robert Rodriguez was said to be one of the “many top-shelf directors interested in” directing an episode of the series. I have yet to read the series, but from what I understand, most fans saw it more as a television mini-series than a big screen movie.

The official plot synopsis from the graphic novel follows: “Here’s a book guaranteed to offend a bunch of people, not only because of its profuse profanity and graphic violence, but because it’s the epitome of iconoclasm. Like a brutal accident, you can’t watch but you can’t turn away. The story follows an ex-preacher man, Jesse, who has become disgusted with God’s abandoning of His responsibilities. So Jesse starts off into the wilds of Texas with his hitman girlfriend and new best friend (a vampire) to find God so that he can give Him a piece of his mind. Despite its superficial perversity, this book contains what may be the most moral character in mainstream comics. A cult hit in the making. Fans of Quentin Tarantino take note.”

The 75 issue comic book series was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, and published between 1995 to 2000.

"American Pie" Heading Back to Theaters

10-28-2008 (20:30:32)

headline9793.jpgMoviehole

is reporting that Universal Pictures has decided to make another

"American Pie" installment, but unlike the last three films, it will

appear in theaters as a direct sequel to "American Wedding," which was

the third film in the franchise.

The goal is get away from the

spin-offs like "American Pie: Band Camp," "American Pie: Naked Mile"

and "American Pie: Beta House," which all starred Eugene Levy. Instead, Universal would like to return to the roots and focus on Jim (Jason Biggs), Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Stifler (Seann William Scott) and others.

"American

Wedding" deals with the wedding of Jim and Michelle and the gathering

of their families and friends, including Jim's old friends from high

school and Michelle's little sister. The fourth new film will pick up

from there.

The first "American Pie" film brought in over $235

on an $11 million budget. The sequel earned over $287 million on a $30

million budget. And "American Wedding" continued the success by

bringing in $231 million on a $55 million budget. Clearly there is

still some life in this franchise.

Sony, Paramount financing 'Tintin'

tintin.jpg

Sony Pictures Entertainment and Paramount Pictures are in talks to co-finance the digital 3-D "Tintin," the Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson series based on the Belgian "Tintin" comics.

After resolving the Paramount-DreamWorks divorce, putting together a studio deal for "Tintin" was next on Spielberg's agenda. After Universal balked at partnering on the first installment, which Spielberg will direct, Paramount offered to fully back the first movie with a reduced backend at $135 million for the two gross participants. When the filmmakers held out for a better deal, a partner became a viable alternative.

While neither Sony nor Paramount would comment, both confirmed talks were under way.

Spielberg had hoped to be in production by this fall. However, when financing fell apart at Universal on the eve of DreamWorks/Paramount divorce, he lost the participation of his lead actor Thomas Sangster. Nonetheless, "Tintin" is expected to be complete in time for a 2010 release. Jackson will direct the sequel.

In the deal currently being negotiated, Paramount is planning to distribute in North America and some other English-speaking territories, while Sony would handle the foreign release. However, "Tintin" would no longer have any association with DreamWorks.

Spielberg and Jackson were originally teaming to direct and produce three back-to-back features based on Georges Remi's beloved comic-strip hero "Tintin." Spielberg and Jackson selected three stories from Remi's "The Adventures of Tintin" series, which encompassed 23 books published between 1929 and 1976 about an intrepid junior reporter and his dog Snowy who track down stories to the ends of the earth.

The director of the third film in the planned trilogy was always up in the air and a script was never written. Kathleen Kennedy joins Spielberg and Jackson as a producer on the three films, but the deal under discussion appears to be for two.

"Tintin" has long been a passion project for Spielberg; he and Kennedy have held various film rights to the comedic adventure book series off and on for more than 25 years. Jackson has also long been a fan of the comic books. His New Zealand-based WETA Digital, the f/x house behind "The Lord of the Rings" franchise, produced a 20-minute test reel bringing to life the characters created by Remi, who wrote under the pen name of Herge. The films are expected to be filmed using photorealistic performance-capture techniques.

Jackson has delivered Paramount the print of his DreamWorks film "Lovely Bones," based on Alice Sebold's bestseller, which is set for fall 2009 release.
