'The Sopranos' tops WGA's top 101 TV shows of all time

By Patrick Kevin Day

June 3, 2013, 5:00 a.m.

They say that television is a writer's medium, so it makes sense that the Writers Guild of America would have its own list of the 101 greatest TV shows of all time.

At the top of the list is "The Sopranos," HBO's multiple award-winning hit series that ended its run in 2007.

Assembled for the very first time, the list selects the best of TV from early sitcoms, like "The Honeymooners," to current programs such as "Homeland" and "Louie."

While it's not surprising that reality shows are entirely absent from the list, those who are doubtful that we're living in a golden age of television may be shocked to learn that 17 of the top 100 are shows still on the air, including longtime champs such as "The Simpsons," "Saturday Night Live" and "The Daily Show."

Here is the complete list of the 101 best shows as selected by an online poll of writers of film and TV.

NEWS/  Happy Endings and Body of Proof Not Getting Picked Up by Other Networks

Don't look now, but we are hiding under the covers like Penny after a bad breakup, contemplating Mexican sleep medication.

USA has decided to not to pick up cult comedy favorite Happy Endings, sources confirm to E! News.

VOTE NOW: Which canceled show will you miss the most?

Endings, which was canceled earlier this month by ABC, was considered a very real contender to join USA network's slate. Sony TV studios has been in active talks with USA for weeks, however, we are told the basic-cable network opted to pass on the series, as first reported by Deadline, for budgetary reasons. Sony TV is now looking for a non-network home such as Amazon or Netflix—which of course most recently resurrected Arrested Development after seven years off the air.

Also disappointing for TV fans: Body of Proof hasn't been able to find a new network either. ABC Studios has been shopping the series around since it was canceled by ABC network a couple weeks ago, and although there was talk that WGN cable network might pick it up, we are told that's a no go. The Dana Delaney starrer is lucrative for the studio overseas, and actually performed well in the ratings this season on ABC (the third most-watched drama on ABC, behind Castle and Grey's Anatomy).

Notícia do E! Online.

Critics' Choice TV Awards: 'Game of Thrones' and 'Breaking Bad' Tie for Best Drama, 'Big Bang Theory' Wins Best Comedy

On a night of several ties at the 3rd Annual Critics' Choice Television Awards, HBO's "Game of Thrones" and AMC's "Breaking Bad" were both named Best Drama Series and CBS's "Big Bang Theory" won for Best Comedy Series.

CBS's "Big Bang Theory" led the night with three awards: Kaley Cuoco tied for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy with Eden Sher of ABC's "The Middle," and Simon Helberg won for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy.

The night's other tie came in the Best Reality Series category, where A&E's "Duck Dynasty" tied Sundance's "Push Girls."

screenshot2013-06-11at11528am-300x213.pnPerhaps the biggest surprise of the night was Tatiana Maslany (left), who won Best Actress in a Drama Series for BBC's "Orphan Black." She beat actresses including last year's winner, Claire Danes. Bryan Cranston had his second consecutive win for Best Actor in a Drama Series for "Breaking Bad."

Louis C.K. won for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for FX's "Louie," and Julia Louis-Dreyfus won for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for HBO's "Veep."

Elisabeth Moss was named Best Actress in a Movie or Miniseries for Sundance's "Top of The Lake," and Michael Douglas won Best Actor in a Movie or Miniseries for "Behind the Candelabra." Presenters Josh Gad and Aubrey Plaza jokingly mispronounced his name, pretending that the category's nominees -- who also included Matt Damon and Al Pacino -- were all relative unknowns.

no projeto.

No Brasil, a série é exibida no canal pago Sony.
