I loved it, every last second, right down to the mushy story about love and relationships that Kevin Smith gets to in the end. It's hilarious, it's saturated with sex, and it's charming, too. To be honest, I think Kevin Smith has actually taken a gigantic step forward, away from his previous films like Clerks and Dogma, and ventured into new comedic territory that used to only be reserved for Judd Apatow. I thought Seth Rogen might not be able to keep up his consistently strong comedic performances, but he's outdone himself and even topped Pineapple Express this time. Zack and Miri isn't exactly as reflective as Clerks II, but it's definitely sweeter. If you haven't figured out what the film is about simply from the title, then I don't think I should be explaining it to you anyway. Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) are lifelong best friends who have never been anything more than just that. The two have been roommates for years but haven't really progressed in life, so when they run out of money for water and electricity, they decide to shoot a porno together in order to make some quick cash. Borrowing funds from a fellow co-worker (Craig Robinson), the two scoop up other wanna-be pornstars and get down-n-dirty. But as anyone might expect, for these two friends, fucking is more than just a way to make money. Remarkably, Rogen and Banks have perfect chemistry and feel like true life-long friends captured on camera. Zack and Miri Make a Porno is easily one of the best comedies I've seen in a long-time. Thanks to Kevin Smith, it's so easy to get into and so easy to laugh at, making it one of the lest challenging films to simply sit back and enjoy, which is a delight here in Toronto. I don't care that Elizabeth Banks never showed her tits because she's a respectable actor or that we otherwise literally got a full on Jason Mewes-on-Katie Morgan porno, because I was able to simply enjoy the enduring story that Smith put together himself. And I don't care that Seth Rogen doesn't become a hit porno producer in the end (don't worry it's not a spoiler) because the story told within this 102 minutes was thoroughly entertaining anyway. I'm anxious to see Zack and Miri again, but not for the typical reasons. I think there is something new to gain every time and I want to see how much I missed by laughing so much. Kevin Smith's brilliance shines through yet again in Zack and Miri and Rogen and Banks, in addition to a hilarious ensemble lead by Craig Robinson, pull off wonderfully amusing performances. Zack and Miri is a comedy that will not even come close to letting anyone down. Instead, it's an instant hit that has so much more to offer than just cheap laughs. Toronto Rating: 9 out of 10 --- Toronto International Film Festival: Zack and Miri Make a Porno By Matthew Torti Published Yesterday As popular a filmmaker as Kevin Smith is, I’ve only really enjoyed two of his films: Clerks and Chasing Amy. The rest, while entertaining, leave nothing for the audience to ponder about. Yes, Smith is a wonderful writer, but pop-culture dialogue and cameos can only go so far. For a while, I thought Smith had ventured off into a filmmaking rut that would be near impossible to escape. Jersey Girl? At best an ill advised attempt at trying to cater to a different demographic. Smith is much better than that. But let’s not ignore the fact that every filmmaker has their dud and Smith was trying to branch out as a filmmaker. But in the end, what did Smith do? He took a step back and entered the world of Clerks once again. While the film got a number of chuckles out of me, I couldn’t help but realize that maybe Smith had hit his creative peak. Instead of growing as a filmmaker and storyteller and learning from his mistakes, he fell back onto what was proven to be successful for him. Suddenly, it felt as if Smith no longer had anything important or interesting to say. Then I saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno. It’s interesting to note that Smith’s most mature and fully realized picture is also his filthiest. The story has been described to no end (besides, it’s explained in the title), so I won’t bore you by discussing it here again. Zack and Miri Make a Porno is, hands down, the funniest film I’ve seen all year. I say that without hesitation because Smith develops the characters in a way that makes you fall in love with them. In today’s comedic world of film (which is undoubtedly owned by Apatow and Co.) most of them are laugh out loud hilarious, but you don’t care about the characters. Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder come to mind. Both great, hilarious films, but I had trouble connecting with the characters on an emotional or even human level, so I didn’t care what happened to them. In Zack and Miri Make a Porno, I felt the exact opposite. And not just for Zack or Miri, but for all of the odd ball characters that inhabit Smith’s world. Over the years, Smith has grown into a reliable storyteller; in that, you can expect every one of his films to be populated by an eclectic group of outsiders and misfits. Zack and Miri Make a Porno is no different. While Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks are the heart and soul of the film, the supporting cast threatens to steal the show from under their noses on more than one occasion. Especially Crag Robinson, who some of you may know as Matheson from Pineapple Express or Darryl Philbin from The Office. His Delaney character is one of the most memorable in recent memory. As the producer of the porno, Delaney is given all of the best lines and sometimes even outshines Rogen. There’s a reason why Robinson is the go-to guy for supporting characters. A number of familiar faces inhabit Zack and Miri’s world and each of them have a memorable, stand out scene. Chief among them: Justin Long (Mac in the Apple commercials) and Brandon Routh (Superman) as a gay couple! Without a doubt, they steal the show. While leaving the theatre after the screening, I began to wonder why the film had such a huge impact on me. I eventually came to the conclusion that, at its core, Zack and Miri Make a Porno is a film about family and the effect (positive and negative) that love can have on us all. It’s a sweet, yet incredibly graphic film; physically and emotionally speaking. Smith is known for having an uncanny ability to recreate the most uncomfortable moments brought about through love and physical attraction and how it messes with us all and this film especially doesn’t shy away from that. It’s honest and believable which, for a comedy, says a lot. Se vc disse "alguns americanos são muito puritanos" ao invés de "algumas pessoas são muito puritanas" dá a impressão que isso é exclusividade deles. Essa "censura" quer dizer que o poster não pode ser exibido em lugares públicos, como outdoors, assim como não podem ser exibidas fotos de pessoas nuas ou imagens de pessoas usando drogas (exatamente como é no Brasil, diga-se de passagem). Hoje em dia eu já me acostumei com a Elizabeth Banks como a Miri, até porque fica uma coisa ainda mais divertida vê-la ao lado do grandalhão Seth Rogen. Mas a Rô é tão assaz… Infelizmente, ela tava envolvida com Eagle Eye e não chegou a “recusar” o papel, simplesmente as agendas não bateram. Tirando um silicone aqui, outro ali, não é nada muito gráfico, então pode conferi-las na galeria à vontade. A história de Zack and Miri fala de dois amigos que chegaram aos seus 30 anos sem grandes realizações na vida. Problemas financeiros e uma reunião de 15 anos de amigos do colegial fazem os dois despertarem. Zack (Seth Rogen) e Miri (Elizabeth Banks) decidem então montar um negócio amador de cinema pornô. Craig Robinson, Traci Lords, Katie Morgan, Ricky Mabe, Jeff Anderson e Jason Mewes, mais conhecido como Jay, o parceiro do Silent Bob, também estão no elenco. The Megaplex Theatres in Utah towns Salt Lake City, Ogden, Lehi, and Sandy have decided not to show Rogen's new movie because of its sex and nudity scenes. The film centres on two friends who launch an amateur porn studio, and stars Pineapple Express funnyman Rogen and Elizabeth Banks. But cinema bosses believe the comic romp will be too much for more conservative film fans. A spokesperson for the chain tells New York gossip column PageSix, "We feel it's very close to an Nc-17 with its graphic nudity and graphic sex." Earlier this month, Banks branded America's movie rating board sexist after they initially slapped an adults-only Nc-17 certification on the film. It was later changed to R-rated after studio bosses won an appeal to have it lowered. Espero que toda essa polêmica pelo menos ajude na bilheteria.
