Melhor episódio da temporada até agora. Acho que a série funciona melhor com 20 minutos mesmo, se bem que eu também tava gostando dos de 40.

Strike Watch: How Lost, Simpsons and 24 Will be Affected

As the clock possibly runs down on a strike beginning, TV series get ready for the worst.

- The possible writers strike could begin as soon as November 1st,
though there are some reports saying talks could continue after the
current Writers Guild of America contract ends, on October 31st.
However, Hollywood is bracing for the impact of a strike, which would
have huge ramifications for television that would be much more quickly
felt by the public than it would be with films, which have a far longer
lead time.



A new article in Variety goes over the impact a strike will have for
TV, noting that all comedic sketch/talk shows would be forced to halt
production almost immediately, such as Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report
and Jay Leno, David Letterman and Conan O'Brien's late night talk
shows. Those shows all rely on topical news and are written shortly
before filming, with no pre-written scripts to rely on.



As Variety notes, the strike would be a big disservice to new series just building buzz and an audience, such as Pushing Daisies, Samantha Who? and Private Practice, as all would be forced to prematurely end their seasons without a proper finale. Pushing Daisies
executive producer Bryan Fuller notes that he is racing to finish the
show's ninth episode, as it at least wraps up a multi-episode story
arc.



One show in a better position is FOX's Prison Break. Executive producer Matt Olmstead tells Variety
they have written scripts up through episode 13, which is already
intended to be a mid-season cliffhanger for when the show goes on
hiatus. If need be, they could easily turn that episode into a season
finale, offering more of a satisfying conclusion to the season than
most other shows. The CW's comedy Everybody Hates Chris
meanwhile is in the enviable position of having wrapped all 22 of its
episodes already, so there will be original episodes all season,
regardless of a strike or not.

Jack Bauer isn't taking news of his possibly truncated season well

Surprising
no one, NBC's Ben Silverman says "The most likely outcome is more news
and more reality," if a strike occurs. FOX has an ace in the hole in
this regard, because their massive hit American Idol returns in January. ABC meanwhile will no doubt program more Dancing with the Stars and Variety speculates that Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? could be revived on the network.



A big question is how the strike would affect shows like Lost and 24, which haven't premiered yet. Lost
was intended to have a shorter 16 episode season, and began filming
later than most shows as a result. Reports vary on whether they would
be finished with 8 or 10 episodes, should the strike occur immediately.
Either way, ABC will likely choose to air what they have early next
year. As an insider tells Variety, "It's better to come on with some
season than no season. If there's a strike, we'll need scripted
programming." However, FOX will have a tough decision in this regard
with 24 - the heavily serialized program got a much later start
filming this year than usual because of several production problems and
rewrites and probably would also only have about 8 completed episodes
to air, leaving as many as 16 hours of Jack Bauer's next dangerous day
unresolved for quite some time.



Variety pegs Cavemen, K-Ville and Life is Wild
as already on the bubble shows that would likely be cancelled if the
strike occurs. They note that the threat of the strike has likely made
the networks more cautious than usual to get rid of a series, since
they know that soon they could be desperate for any scripted series and
the more content they have in this regard, the better. The producers of
other new or still growing shows meanwhile have churned out as many
scripts as possible, realizing this could be a benefit to them - ABC's October Road,
returning mid-season after a fairly successful short run in the spring,
is one of the few shows to also already have 13 scripts written.



In theory, animated series would be affected less, because they are much further ahead in production. However, The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean tells Variety that while The Simpsons has recorded 21 of 22 episodes for this season "recorded doesn't mean they're done. They still need rewriting."
