Midnight in Paris, Melancholia, Carnage, Albert Nobbs, Shame, A Dangerous Method, The Guard, Wuthering Heights, We Need to Talk About Kevin, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Coriolanus, Jane Eyre, Tyranossaur... Falta agora sabermos a reação a 360, The Lady e Page Eight. My Week with Marylin me anima pouco, já The Iron Lady quase nada.

An admirable attempt to strip the story of "Wuthering Heights" down to its barest' date=' most primal elements, helmer Andrea Arnold's first period feature and first adaptation of another writer's work is unfortunately more interesting in theory than it is to watch. Working with mostly non-professional thesps whose inexperience drains away much of the material's intrinsic passion, pic is dramatically flat and almost stylized in its austere excision of dialogue, non-source music and, strangest of all given the book's romantic rep, overt love scenes. Helmer's name and the title alone will guarantee distribution, but "Wuthering" won't reach arthouse B.O. heights.[/quote']

O In Contention atualizou as previsões. Reduziu o número de indicados a Melhor Filme para 8 (que são The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Help, The Ides of March, J. Edgar, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy e War Horse).

Andrea Arnold’s version of WUTHERING HEIGHTS couldn’t be more

dissimilar: a big, towering masterpiece that should be the template for

all English period pieces: unconventional, bold, innovative, brave – and

above all, moving. The film reminded me a lot of Malick’s THE NEW WORLD

in the way that the love story is intertwined with the natural

landscape, and the lack of score is filled by the sounds of the moors –

the howling winds, the pouring rain, the dogs and the crickets. This is

exactly the kick up the ass a classic like this needs – a necessary,

fresh approach. One of my favorite films of the year. (Jon Brighton)

Also worth mentioning is Robert Forster in “The Descendants,” who

only gets two scenes, but one of them is a bit of a tear-jerker. Many

were talking about him in Telluride.

Eddie Murphy será o apresentador do Oscar 2012.

Over the past decade, four other films directed by Eastwood have made the American Film Institute’s annual list of the year’s best movies:
Mystic River
in 2003,
Million Dollar Baby
in 2004,
Letters from Iwo Jima
in 2006 and
Gran Torino
in 2008.

“Clint Eastwood is an American icon – one whose work as a director, actor, producer and composer not only stands the test of time, but also continues to add new, rich chapters with each passing year,” AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale said in the press release announcing the booking. “ … What an honor it is for the American Film Institute to premiere his latest contribution to America’s cultural legacy.”

The 25th Annual AFI Fest takes place from November 3 through November 10.

The Ides of March
Possible Best Picture and Director nominee (but only if US critics are more enthusiastic than the ones at Venice and the film does okay commercially). If it gets those, possible supporting nods for Philip Seymour Hoffman and Evan Rachel Wood. Film Editing is the only tech possibility.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
On the one hand, it’s possibly too low-key for big Oscar categories, but I’m thinking the Brit vote could make a big difference here. It should do very well with the BAFTAs. Best Adapted Screenplay is a strong possibility, as is Gary Oldman — if not the slam-dunk we might have thought. I suspect the supporting male ensemble is too large (and too uniformly high-quality) for any individual to break through — kind of an “L.A. Confidential” situation. Watch for Albert Iglesias’ score and the production design.

Wuthering Heights
Not a chance, though in a just world, it would win the Best Cinematography Oscar walking away.

A Dangerous Method
Well, you know. I’m increasingly thinking it’s just going to fade away.

Shame
I’m sure you agree this isn’t going to happen (sadly).

Carnage
I just think this is too bitter and brittle for Academy voters to embrace. Perhaps Christoph Waltz is in the Supporting Actor frame, but he’s a dark horse.

W.E.
Best Costume Design nod, here we come.

Mal humor! Mal humor! Mal humor! 06

...

Esse senhor do In Contention é constrangedor.

Daniel Bruhl está em Veneza com Eva.

E saiu a confirmação:

Meryl Streep starts the season with a Kennedy Center honor

streep.gifLast week Larry King said he had it on good authority that Meryl Streep would be honored by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Today, it turns out he was right.

Streep will be feted alongside musicians Neil Diamond and Yo-Yo Ma, saxophonist Sonny Rollins and singer/actress Barbara Cook. The announcement is a great way to launch her into the awards season as she looks to be a good bet for Oscar recognition for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, especially seeing as Glenn Close is dominating that conversation this week with Albert Nobbs bowing in Telluride before moving on to Toronto.

The Kennedy Center Honors will take place on December 4, the week the National Board of Review really gets the awards circuit going and just under two weeks before the release of The Iron Lady. But the won’t be broadcast on CBS until December 27.

Over at The New York Times’ Arts Beat blog, Ashley Southall has a statement from Streep:

I am deeply honored by this news, and wish my mother and father were alive to hear it!…All that education, allowance, tuition, voice lessons, summer jobs, scholarship application deadlines and loving care and discipline – all that they gave me, bore fruit in a way they never dreamed. I am so grateful!

The Iron Lady skipped the fall festival circuit, but I’m told it simply wasn’t finished yet.
