Putz , sempre ouço falar dele , mas a única música que eu conheço do Johnny Cash é " Hurt", cover do Nine Inch Nails !

Comecei a pegar um monte dele há alguns meses para me preparar para o filme... Mas o título nacional é simplório pacas.

Estou notando que as primeiras críticas de Memórias de uma Gueixa, no RT, estão bem divididas... É ridíciulo se deseperar por causa de quatro ou cinco textos, mas se a tendência se confirmar o filme não terá suporte necessário da crítica, no estilo de Jarhead.

Eu estava desconfiando que o filme teria dificuldades em agradar amplamente a crítica .De qualquer forma , mesmo que fique de fora das categorias principais ( filme , diretor , atores e roteiro ) ainda tem muitas chances nas técnicas , até porque tem alguns dos melhores profissionais da indústria na equipe . Memórias pode conseguir mesmo uma exurrada de indicações sem estar na categoria principal. Até Frida conseguiu 6... Melhor para Spielberg, que não teria votos divididos como Produtor.

Mas ainda não vou tirar o filme das minhas previsões (que estão desatualizadas), 5 críticas não definem nada.

Pô, muito ruim o título nacional de Walk the Line.   Eles deveriam ter deixado o título original, ou no máximo colocar um subtitulo.   Sei lá.

O clipe que citaram do Johnny Cash, "Hurt" é genial. E, se não me engano, é dirigido pelo Mark Romanek, mesmo diretor do ótimo filme Retratos de uma Obssessão.

 

E ainda cedo mesmo para tirar conclusões sobre Memoirs of a Geisha. Mas acredito que o filme tenha sim boas chances nas principais categorias do Oscar.

What drew me onto the Brokeback bandwagon at this moment was that I don't think Geisha will draw 80% of the "romantic saga" voters at the Academy. Moreover, in direct comparison, Geisha suffers from its limitations. Brokeback has the dryness and love of inaction that pushed me away from it… but it is still more passionate than the overripe Memoirs… or as I have taken to calling it, Cold Mountin' (Or Geisha Mountain or Cold Memoir), in honor of its question mark of a predecessor, Cold Mountain (which, by the way, I also prefer to Geisha).

Yet, with very strong players in most of the tech areas, I still expect Geisha to rack up 7 nominations without even counting a Director or Picture nod. That should be enough momentum to get the picture to one of those top five slots this year. But then again, Cold Mountain… 7 nominations… no director… no screenplay… no picture.

The performance getting all the buzz in Memoirs is Gong Li's… but I would say that quality of performance has little to do with it. She is Memoir's Renee Zellweger… the one performance that has any energy or exuberance, so therefore, it is confused with being very good. Zellweger won, I think, on Chicago guilt. The Academy doesn't owe Gong Li anything.

But the real problem with Geisha is its obsession with style at the cost of real emotion. The classic moment in the film is when Zhang Ziyi's character has her geisha debut. Rob Marshall dresses her magnificently, puts her in these amazing giant shoes, and then lights her, shoots her, and surrounds her with fake snow in a remarkably dramatic sequence. But the problem is, it wasn't about the geisha. It was about Rob Marshall. We don't really connect with her emotionally. We don't really believe she can dance or perform. In fact, if you think about it, the only reason we know this was a huge success is because we are told that it is. We don't feel it in our guts.

I give Mr. Marshall some room here because he had a real problem that few directors could get over. His leads are communicating in broken English most of the way and while it makes sense to us, since we know they are (mostly) actual Asian-born actors, it means that their ability to communicate doesn't have the fluidity that their native languages would have. And just like watching a performer who can't sing or dance try to find their comfort zone so they can actually act well while doing what they are uncomfortable with.

Semana de Ação de graças... Mas realmente eu acho que isso pesará bastante e aposto na indicação do filme.

Pois é, Walk the Line está indo muito bem na sua bilheteria. Na sua segunda semana continua segundo lugar, atrás apenas de Harry Potter. Portanto, ótimos resultados. Reforça ainda mais sua indicação para o Oscar.

E Rent que abriu em segundo na quarta, já caiu pra 5º na sexta. E como não foi muito bem de críticas, adeus a todas as suas chances no Oscar.

Tem muita coisa bem parecida com as minhas previsões aí. Acho que as maiores diferenças, no entanto, é que não boto fé em King Kong pra filme, e acho que Munique deve ser indicado sim.

Oscarwatching 2005 - O que mudou desde Setembro

Passaram dois meses e muita coisa mudou em Hollywood. Alguns favoritas deixarão de o ser, alguns filmes foram ganhando o seu espaço. Há ainda muitos titulos por estrear mas começam a definir-se alguns cenários, impensáveis no mês de Setembro.
O que se segue é um pequeno compêndio de mudanças claras desde a última previsão do Hollywood...

O filme Jarhead tinha 7 nomeações numa primeira fase. Agora muito dificilmente alcançará esses números. O filme desiludiu no box-office, mas, acima de tudo, não convenceu a critica. Sam Mendes volta a falhar a tentativa de revalidar o óscar que ganhou por American Beauty. E Jake Gyllenhall e Peter Saarsgard vêm o seu nome ser riscado da lista de favoritos.

The New World foi o segundo filme com mais nomeações previstas. Pelo adiamento do projecto e por nada se saber sobre o novo filme de Terrence Malick, estas novas previsões são mais cuidadosas. Afinal a hora da verdade aproxima-se e o segredo à volta do fim dá pouca margem de manobra para se arriscar.

Walk the Line tornou-se num dos grandes favoritos do ano. Aplaudido pela critica, abraçado pelo público, com notáveis performances, o filme de James Mangold é hoje um dos mais sérios candidatos a conquistar mais nomeações.

Também Munich, que só saiu com 5 nomeações (em Setembro o projecto ainda estava em rodagens e pouco se sabia) vê o seu estatuto de favorito consolidado.

All the Kings Man saiu da corrida, sendo agora um dos favoritos para o próximo ano. Sem qualquer nomeação prevista em Setembro mas com boas hipóteses em Novembro estão Syriana e The Squid and the Whale. Filmes como Crash, Cinderella Man ou Capote estão igualmente a subir enquanto que In Her Shoes, Elizabethtown, Transamerica e The Three Burrials of Melquiades Estrada podem estar fora da corrida.

Em áreas mais especificas há igualmente mais novidades. Actores que passaram de secundários a principais e vice-versa, argumentos que mudaram de original para adaptado, novas trilhas sonoras....As mudanças são muitas, mas é curioso que nas principais categorias as coisas estão muito parecidas. Das duas uma: ou o Hollywood preveu em Setembro o cenário de Dezembro, ou pouco ou nada tem mudado por esses terrenos.

Postaram no Fórum CineNews a notícia que eu ia postar sobre Memórias de Uma Gueixa .

Uma coisa que achava que iria acontecer , pode mesmo acontecer : chineses e japoneses odiarem ou  ,no mínimo, desprezarem o filme . Além de Hollywood sempre ignorar particularidades culturais de outros povos .

De qualquer modo ainda estou curioso quanto ao filme , e quanto ao livro também .Com certeza terá uma nova edição .<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
