Various things have kept me away from the computer for too long, but I thought I`d let you know about my visit to Shepperton Studios the other day to see how the film of His Dark Materials is shaping up ... But the first thing to say about the film is that the producers and director have assembled the greatest cast I could ever have hoped for. Dakota Blue Richards is Lyra to the life; Nicole Kidman is a magnificent Mrs Coulter; Daniel Craig is a Lord Asriel both powerful and daring. And it goes on: Tom Courtenay as Farder Corm, Jim Carter as Lord Faa, Clare Higgins as Ma Costa, Jack Shepherd as the Master of Jordan College, Eva Green as Serafina Pekkala, Simon McBurney as Fra Pavel - I`m astonished and delighted with every one of them, and with the others I haven`t got time to list. Take it from me: this is a brilliant cast. The designs: not a great deal has been built yet, but I could see from the artwork how sumptuous and extraordinary this film will look. Dennis Gassner the designer has taken the look of our world, the world we call real, and added a little, and twisted a little, and enriched it a little, and come up with something which no-one could mistake for this world and yet which is reminiscent of it in a thousand ways. For me, as someone who likes to fool about making things out of wood, the best place in the whole studio was the workshop where they were making things: sledges, tables, guns, and the alethiometer. That was an extraordinary process. They use lasers that intersect at right angles (I think I`ve got it right) to etch the complex surface in resin, and then they make a mould from that and cast the casework in brass. The first one had come out of the mould just a couple of days before and was still being worked on, but the dial was in place (astonishing tiny paintings all perfectly realised) and I could see how the workings would move the hands and the needle. I bet it will work, too. They were also working on the spy-flies. I suppose the term is animatronic: these are real objects, not collections of pixels - perfect creepy insects as big as my thumb, with minutely detailed legs and antennae, worked by a sort of joystick. They move, they turn their heads, they raise their wings, they chill your blood. And the costumes! Hundreds of them are in place already, hanging on their rails waiting to be put on. The gyptians look magnificent - rough and vivid patterned coats and boots; and Lyra`s dresses, from the slightly-too-small and shabby and often-repaired dress she has to wear at Jordan to the glamorous silken things Mrs Coulter buys for her in London, are beautifully right. Dakota told me that she never wears dresses in real life, but she loves wearing the pretty ones on the set. Like the designs for the sets, they are perfectly made to suggest something very like this world, but very subtly different. Outside one of the great hangar-like studio buildings was an entire ship on the back of a gigantic lorry. It had come all the way from the Netherlands, and it was going to be transformed into the Costas` boat. And inside the buildings, giant ice-floes were being constructed. I`ll tell you more once the filming is under way. For the moment, it all looks very good indeed, and I couldn`t be more pleased. But I mustn`t let the HDM film take up all the space, because simultaneously the BBC have been making the second Sally Lockhart story, `The Shadow in the North`. I went to one of the locations they were using for the first story, `The Ruby in the Smoke`, a manor house somewhere in the depths of ... Well, I forget where it was now, but it was an extraordinary house, perfectly preserved as if time just hadn`t touched it. Billie Piper is playing Sally, and doing it brilliantly. I have to admit that I was surprised when they told me about that casting, because I would never have thought of Billie as a young Victorian woman - but she is a superb actress, and she inhabits the part with utter conviction. I also went to the read-through of `The Shadow`, and found myself thinking what a good story it was, and wondering where they`d got it from, before I remembered that I wrote it, the best part of twenty years ago. The Sally books have had to wait all this time to be dramatised, and a good thing too, because the BBC is their natural home. They`re not cinema: they`re television. Unless it`s James Bond, a series character is much more at home on the small screen. They`re planning to show the first one next Christmas, and I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed seeing it being made. I`ll try to get back into the habit of writing a message every month. One of the reasons I`ve missed a few is that I`ve been working on `The Book of Dust`. As usual, I`m not going to say anything about it beyond the fact that it`s growing. And that will have to do. It`s still August, but it feels like autumn this evening. The grass is damp, and the swallows will be going south soon. I hope we have a proper cold winter. Last year was waddle nirvana with the hot doc March of the Penguins and those stealthy stowaways in the animated hit Madagascar. This year, however, there's been a dearth of mirth from Antarctica. But George Miller, the man who made pigs talk in the Babe films, will unveil a chorus line of tuxedoed birds when his HappyFeet dances into theaters Nov. 17. The Aussie filmmaker offers a few tidbits about his cartoon adventure, in the works long before those marching penguins made a box-office splash: •An idea is hatched. Miller first thought of doing a film about emperor penguins after seeing the BBC documentary Life in the Freezer. "I had no idea what extraordinary creatures they were. It was a chance to look at how individuals in a community can't survive without depending on one another." He says Warner Bros. chief Alan Horn bought the French-made March "because he had seen our footage and was sensitized to how interesting penguins were." The sale also allowed the studio to space out the release dates. •A high-tech fable is born.Happy Feet uses both computer and stop-motion animation to tell the story of misfit Mumble (voiced by Elijah Wood), whose lack of singing ability hampers his search for a mate. Instead, he has a knack for tap. "You can't train a penguin to dance," Miller says. "Animation was the only way to do it." Diretor desmente rumores sobre The Dark Knight Por Érico Borgo 31/8/2006 Duas-Caras Questionado sobre dois rumores recorrentes sobre The Dark Knight, o novo filme do Batman, o diretor Christopher Nolan não hesitou: desmentiu ambos. De acordo com o cineasta, não há verdade nos boatos que colocam Ryan Phillippe (Crash - No limite, O terceiro olho) como Harvey Dent - o futuro Duas-Caras - e Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote, Missão: Impossível III) como Oswald Cobblepot - o ganancioso Pingüim. "Mentira. Tudo mentira. Mas até que são idéias interessantes", comentou. Uma pré-filmagem do longa comaça em janeiro e a filmagem principal segue a partir de março de 2007. Saiu agora no Omelete: Movimentação em estúdio inicia rumore sobre pré-produção do novo Batman Por Érico Borgo 28/8/2006 Batman begins foi filmado em um hangar na Inglaterra, reformado para acomodar um estúdio. Agora, a Warner Bros. renovou o aluguel do edifício por mais 12 meses. A renovação já iniciou rumores sobre um possível início de pré-produção de The Dark Knight, o novo filme do Homem-Morcego, por lá. Segundo o jornal britânico Times & Citizen, equipes já ocupam o local e equipamentos já estão sendo levados para lá. Oficialmente, não há qualquer comunicado da WB sobre a atividade no local, mas acredita-se que o estúdio já começou a montar os cenários que darão vida novamente a Gotham City. Uma pré-filmagem começa em janeiro e a filmagem principal segue a partir de março de 2007. O filme deve estrear na metade de 2008, novamente com Christian Bale como o Cavaleiro das Trevas e Christopher Nolan na direção. Heath Ledger será o Coringa.

Pior q é mesmo.Em todas as fotos é a mesma cara! O negócio é q ele vive anunciando em todo lugar q é entrevistado q fez filmes nos EUA e enchia tanto a boca pra falar...Claro q num esperava grande coisa,mas não isso.Eu quero ver a cara dele pra divulgar isso aí...

The Dark Knight continua dando o que falar nos bastidores Data: 24 de Agosto de 2006 Por: Ícaro Ripari De acordo com uma notícia divulgada pelo IMDb e, posteriormente, pelo blog "Hollywood Watch" da jornalista Ana Maria Bahiana, o elenco de "The Dark Knight" tem grandes possibilidades de contar com reforços de peso. Segundo as informações, o ator Ryan Phillippe ("Crash - No Limite" - na foto abaixo, a direita) já estaria confirmado para participar do longa. Cara eu como um "in Nolan I trust"Num to aplaudindo nada naum,até prq nem vi o filme pronto.Nunca afirmei q basta a utilização de recursos do cinema e pronto.É obvio q uma boa interpretação,uma verossimil,não se baseia apenas nisso.Aliás deixei bem claro q acredito na possibilidade de descobrirmos em Ryan Phillipe um ator no mínimo competente como tb em um crescimento de Ledger.Comparar tb The Rock aos dois tb é demais para mim. É ,Ursa,bem lembrado...Esqueci desse detalhe.E depois do fiasco d Warner esse ano em bilheteria(Superman o retorno,Poseidon e A dama na agua)...

Eu tb estou gostando dos rumos do filme,ao contrário do q os PHDs estão comentando... Na verdade,ainda tem muito pouca coisa para se tecer algum comentário rumo q isso vai tomar na tela.O q estamos vendo é apenas uma escalação.Gostei de Begins e tenho ele como referência para respeitar as escolhas do Nolan.Sem histerias,acredito q um diretor pode trazer uma boa interpretação de um ator sempre tido como mediano,pode ser uma experiência de descoberta interessante.Quanto a semelhanças físicas nada q os recursos atuais do cinema naum façam.Se transformaram Nicole Kidman e Charlize Theron em Virginia Woolf e Aileen,respectivamente(semelhança na vida real zero!!!!!!!!!!!),prq naum pode dar uma ajudazinha a esses caras aí... Em junho de 2005 nós noticiamos que o ator de Xuxa e os duendes 2 protagonizaria um filme de terror produzido por Frederico Lapenda, pernambucano radicado nos Estados Unidos há dezenove anos, sócio da Mandalay Lone Runner. Não só era verdade como Szafir agora mostra nas fotos de divulgação de Nightmare Man que deu o sangue. Prenda o fôlego e confira! Sim, o monstro com a faca faz parte do filme também. Dirigido por Rolfe Kanefsky - "em Hollywood ele já está sendo visto como o novo Hitchcock", disse Lapenda à Caras ano passado - o filme acaba de estrear em Los Angeles e chega ao Brasil em dezembro com o título Nightmare Man - O Homem do Pesadelo. O cineasta informou que pretende seguir com a idéia de que o herói kryptoniano teve um filho com a humana Lois Lane. "Existe muito espaço para desenvolvermos esse novo personagem que carrega heranças genéticas da Terra e de Krypton. Com isso ele se torna um personagem mais fácil de escrever do que o Super-Homem, que não tem essa mistura. É duro encontrar obstáculos para um personagem tão poderoso enfrentar", disse Singer.
