  1. Agora é a vez da literatura mexicana, representada aqui pelo livro que é considerado seu expoente máximo. Publicado em 1955, para a eternidade.
  2. Deve ser o terceiro documentário sobre ela que vejo nos últimos anos, mas certamente é o melhor. Está incluído naquela longa lista de 166 produções elegíveis ao Oscar, e tem chance de entrar. Não só por ser obra do diretor ( já consagrado com o oscar na categoria!) Kevin Macdonald, de "O Último Rei da Escócia", que é muito talentoso; mas o doc em si é incrivelmente bem-feito, respeitoso, e relevante: consegue arrancar pela primeira vez uma revelação muito importante sobre o passado dela. O efeito é deixar de ser apenas mais um excelente documentário de "ilha de edição", de colar imagens em cima de uma voz, para atingir algo maior, mais importante. Muitos analistas têm comentado sobre a dificuldade que o "branch" dos documentaristas terá de selecionar os indicados neste ano. Cada doc é melhor do que o outro! Ano após ano tem-se tornado minha categoria predileta. Um comentário lateral que une os dois últimos filmes que vi: Viola Davis tem comentado sobre a importância da cena inicial de "Widows", a saber, o beijo apaixonado, interracial, em Liam Neeson; e neste "Whitney" há um destaque maravilhoso sobre o beijo apaixonado de Whitney em Kevin Costner, na clássica cena da descida do avião em "O Guarda-Costas". Como um simples beijo pode dizer tanto sobre um país!
  3. Era elegível. Pois é, muita gente reclamou da ausência. Eu odiei o filme, mas reconheço o mérito técnico. Além disso, o Design de Produção, com aquelas figuras em flores, também é muito legal.
  4. É muito bem feito! Eu estava descrente quanto as chances dele em Roteiro Adaptado, mas agora que vi, tenho cenho certeza que entra. Gillian Flynn e Steve McQuenn são os roteiristas - seria a primeira indicação na categoria para ambos. É muita reviravolta. É reviravolta em cima de reviravolta em cima de reviravolta, e todas críveis. No fim das contas, é um filme de ação - por mais que toque em várias questões culturais relevantes. Viola Davis, te venero, te venero rude, te venero demais! Mas o maior destaque pra mim foi a Elizabeth Debicki. Pena que o filme - não sei por quê - flopou na bilheteria.

  11. Podemos cravar pouquíssimas coisas nesse fase da temporada. O que torna tudo mais emocionante. Se alguém me dissesse que chegaríamos às vésperas do anúncio dos indicados ao Globo de Ouro (dia 06/12) com ainda 5 filmes muito competitivos em Best Picture eu não acreditaria. Nathaniel Rodgers e Anne Thompson, nesta semana, colocaram "Black Panther" em primeiro nas suas previsões. Eu custo a acreditar nisso, pois embora tenha gostado bastante do filme, nem de longe o acho merecedor do prêmio. Fiquei cheio de dedos para colocar Ethan Hawke em Best Actor e com os prêmios de NY e Gotham parece que ele realmente chegará à quinta indicação. Assim como Paul Schrader tem tudo para -inacreditavelmente- chegar à sua primeira indicação em Melhor Roteiro Original. É essa a função dos críticos. Não deixar que os pequenos bons filmes desapareçam do radar, ainda mais essa inteligente reformulação, não-oficial, de "Luz de Inverno" do Bergman. Confesso que em Melhor Atriz eu esperava já ver Glenn Close pontuando. Deu dó ver ela ir à cerimônia do Gotham e perder. De qualquer forma, Toni Collette tem aparecido aqui e ali pela sua sensacional performance em "Hereditary". Que Lady Gaga, o quê?! Vamos sair da quinta-série. Ator Coadjuvante...Richard E.Grant está subindo muito nas cotações, na mesma velocidade do declínio de Chalamet. Dizem que ele é a melhor coisa do filme. Atriz Coadjuvante, tá tudo dentro do esperado. Aqueles 5 nomes mesmo, com ocasionais incursões da Nicole Kidman. Direção: Cuarón favorito, mas...Spike Lee está retornando ao jogo, com a reexibição do filme em L.A. É campanha que fala?

  13. Que filmão de estréia do Spike Lee! Não dá nem pra dizer outra coisa. "Ela Quer Tudo" é quase uma resposta ao cinema de Woody Allen, mas com a mulher negra no centro. Roteiro brilhante, Montagem brilhante, Fotografia brilhante. Um arraso! Como ele filma sexo bem! Penso na intensidade cômica de "Chi-Rac" (2015); mas também neste aqui no qual o sexo é tratado como um desfrute liberal-romântico... Tô torcendo muito por ele neste ano. Não é possível que a Academia, mesmo tendo o homenageado com o Oscar Honorário no ano passado, não tenha despertado para o talento desse homem. Deixo registrada a frase do pintor Basquiat em que ele dizia que um dia faria filmes "Em que negros seriam retratados como pessoas da raça humana e não como alienígenas". A frase é 1985. Este filme é de 1986.
  14. Deixei passar na época esse Baumbach, e conferi ontem na Netflix. Mais positivo, com mais situações criativas, e o adam Driver arrasando de charmoso. Há ainda uma pensata sobre documentários fabricados. Amei figurino e direção de arte, por causa do universo hipster - de quem, de quem?: Ann Roth e Adam Stockhausen. Esses aí sabem tudo.

  16. Semelhança incrível, mesmo. Fiquei de cara! O filme é bom, heim? Gostei bastante, da história acima de tudo. Atuação excelente do Dinklage, que deve ter colocado muitos demônios pessoais para exorcizar. Fiquei pensando: enquanto aceitações sociais mais amplas não acontecem, a Psicologia está aí para ajudar a cada um lidar com suas condições.

  19. "Get Out" deu o caminho das pedras, e começam agora a surgir outros filmes tributários daquela vibe, daquela mistura de gêneros. Esse "Sorry To Bother You" é - vamos tentar definir - uma comédia racial de ficção científica. !Mucho loco! O texto é bem esperto; os atores (inclusive o protagonista trabalha em "Get Out") estão ótimos; é engraçado; é puro comentário negro; e é uma fusão de gêneros impensável até então. Está entre os queridinhos do cinema independente americano neste ano, com indicações e prêmios em Sundance, Gotham, Spirit Awards, e até a lista dos Top Dez do NBR. Sinceramente, eu gostei até certo ponto, depois, a meia-hora final desandou para mim.
