Members MacGruber
Previsão do Rope of Silicon: 1. Angels and Demons The Da Vinci code cleared $20k per theater back in 2006. Angels & Demons has 300 more theaters, but in the past three years people seemed to have soured on this franchise. So I think it can only hope for 75% of the returns as people adopt a wait and see attitude. Still, it’s gonna bank worldwide. Estimate: $53.6 million 2. Star Trek I’m bullish on the second weekend. I can only drop it 45% - I haven’t found many people who didn’t dig this film. It will pass triple digits and become the highest grossing Trek of all time this weekend. Estimate: $41.4 million 3. X-Men Origins: Wolverine It’s still $84m short of X-Men for 3rd place in the series. Will it get there? Estimate: $11.3 million 4. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past These guys have been helped out by the fact that no one bothered to release any genre competition against them. But at only $31m total grosses I don’t think they’re breaking out the champagne just yet. Estimate: $7.3 million 5. Obsessed As I add all these numbers up it seems as though this will be the worst box-office weekend of the year. By a large amount. Hmmm, perhaps I should’ve bumped Angels & Demons to $65m. Estimate: $3.9 million 6. The Soloist I heard someone last weekend commented on my name and thought it may be some sort of alias. The comment was deleted since it didn’t follow the posting rules, but I can tell you Laremy is my real name, folks. If I were going to make up a name it would be way cooler than the one I’ve got. I’d go with something like “StarScream Bramhamowitz” - now THAT’S a nom de plume. Estimate: $2.8 million 7. 17 Again The sad truth is none of us will ever be 17 Again. Sorry guys, when a film is cranking less than $3m it’s hard to stay interested. Estimate: $2.6 million 8. Next Day Air Next week looks crazy compelling though. Terminator vs. Night at the Museum. That’s a match-up. Terminator 3 opened at $44m as a summer movie back in 2003. Night at the Museum cleared $42m over a long Christmas weekend back in 2006. So who wins? Bale or Stiller? It’s just nice to have a horse race I suppose. Estimate: $1.9 million 9. Earth Speaking of horse races, I’ve got a bonus prediction for you. I don’t like the favorite Rachel Alexandra in The Preakness. I’m going with Pioneer of the Nile, and maybe a little long-shot action with Big Drama. Estimate: $1.6 million 10. Monsters vs. Aliens For the record, Hannah Montana will finish 11th. Estimate: $1.5 million
Members MacGruber
'Angels and Demons' soars in Italy Film captures best opening day of the year Sony's "Angels and Demons" got off to a celestial start in Italy, where it captured the best opening day on a weekday of the year. "Angels," Ron Howard's follow-up to "Da Vinci Code," earned $1.35 million from 800 screens. Italy was one of the top-performing countries for "Da Vinci," which had plenty of local appeal because of its Catholic-centric storyline, and opposition from the Vatican. This time around, the church is keeping a much lower profile. Howard's "Da Vinci" posted an opening-day gross of $2.5 million in Italy, although that was on a Friday. "Angels" could have even more appeal than "Da Vinci." Howard's film stars popular Italo thesp Pierfrancesco Favino as Inspector Olivetti. Tom Hanks toplines, with Ewan McGregor and Ayelet Zurer co-starring. "Angels" opened in several other territories on Wednesday, including France. Early estimates showed that "Angels" didn't do the same sort of business in Gaul as it did in Italy. Film opens today in the U.S., as well as expanding into virtually all foreign territories, save a few.

Members MacGruber
