Muito mais melancólico do que engraçado, o roteiro de Lulu Wang me chamou muito a atenção pela inteligência com que aborda o trânsito entre culturas, americana e chinesa, ou como aborda a disputa econômica entre os dois países, sendo a China, agora, a terra do dinheiro, onde se pode fazer 1 milhão de dólares mais fácil. Awkwafina está muito bem ( Não a indicaria ao Oscar, contudo), sim, embora a personagem dela se encontre imobilizada pelas circunstâncias, servindo quase como uma escada luxuosa para a avózinha cheia de vida, alegria, e ternura, da encantadora Shuzhen Zhao - de resto uma das melhores personagens do ano. Linda atuação. Ficarei muito feliz se ela for indicada como Melhor Coadjuvante. Um filme simples, eficiente, simpático, uma agradável experiência. Impressionante como um Roteiro ruim e uma Montagem ruim podem estragar a experiência. Em meio a cenas até boas, rola um flashback, tipo, "do nada"! E esses flashbacks me fizeram pensar inevitavelmente como esse filme se parece com "The Wife" (que é muito melhor, diga-se passagem!) Um pequeno filme,com uma grande atuação, que é escondida pelos flashbacks para mostrar a personagem no passado. Assim como Glenn Close despontou como favorita, Renée Zellweger também encabeça as preferências. É uma atuação muito boa, de fato. Principalmente no gestual, ora atordoado, ora encantador, mostrando bem a fase difícil que a legendária atriz atravessava em sua vida pessoal. Assim como em "The Wife", Renée deve ser a solitária indicação ao Oscar desse filme. Eu acho que chegar desacompanhada no Oscar não é um caminho fácil para a vitória. Como a história nos ensina. Fiquei me perguntando muito sinceramente se a nova geração sabe quem foi Judy Garland... Este filme infelizmente não será uma boa apresentação.
