E Michael Shannon está sendo elogiado demais, mas ainda tem Fiennes, Sheen, Downey Jr., Brolin e Franco que podem complicar sua vida na corrida pela indicação. Vamos aguardar por The Curious Case of Benjamin Button e The Reader, para aí sim, termos um panorama real dos indicados. Members Green Posted November 18, 2008 Members Report Share Posted November 18, 2008 Pelas criticas que Revolutionary Road recebeu, todos dizem que o filme emociona, tem otímas interpretações de Kate e Leonardo e agora do Michael. Alguns dizem que Leonardo brilha +, outros dize que Kate é quem conduz o filme. Fico Feliz, claro. Mas será que ele consegue MELHOR FILME, pois todos dizem que tem a mesma temática de Beleza Americana e Pecados Íntimos, que foi duramente criticado por ter esta mesma tematica. Sei que são filmes, histórias e personagens diferentes, mas falaram que Mendes não sai desse tipo de filme... E agora ? Nova imagem de The Reader, como sempre com a mesma Winslet. He's packed his cast with a football team of Australian stars and actors - Bryan Brown, Jack Thompson, Ben Mendelsohn, Barry Otto, Tony Barry, Kerry Walker, Ray Barrett, Sandy Gore, Bill Hunter et al. Luhrmann weaves many styles and genres through his story stirring reminders of John Ford westerns, works of Clint Eastwood, Howard Hawks, William Wyler and strongly, the classic movie The Wizard of Oz. Emotions, driven by power, love and violence surge through the excitement and challenges of a most diverse and colourful collection of Aussie characters many roughly honed from the harsh environment and the struggle for survival. The thrust of the narrative is driven by the clash of intrusive white culture on the traditional indigenous owners of the land with a strong undercurrent of Aboriginal spirituality. Its core is 13-year-old Nullah in a magnificent, natural and endearing debut performance by Brandon Walters, who carries the movie on his small shoulders while all around him high drama evolves. Nullah is dubbed a "creamy" by his father, white cattle boss Fletcher (David Wenham in very broad mode), his Aboriginal mother is the daughter of tribal leader King George (David Gulpilil). Nullah becomes a huge influence on Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman), an English aristocrat, who arrives in Australia to sell her sprawling cattle station Faraway Downs. She finds her husband has been murdered, allegedly by King George and comes face to face with The Drover (Jackman) in a hilarious and sudden discovery of another wildly different world. They connect and set up the first half of the movie. Cattle King Carney (Brown) is about to tie up an Australian Army contract to supply beef but Lady Sarah and Drover have other ideas and with an improbable team, including her boozy accountant (rollicking Thompson) begin a seemingly impossible and long trek with 1500 cattle heading for Darwin. The second half involves the developing love of Sarah and Drover, who has strong links to the indigenous and the outback. Then comes the stunning calamity of the Japanese attack. The Stolen Generation theme is continued strongly involving the church mission, Nullah and his uncle (David Ngoombujarra). Jackman, in his finest role is outstanding, stamping the screen with international stardom authority. Kidman moves smoothly from her uncomfortable elegance to the warmer and evolving "Mrs Boss", whose compassion and understanding of this strange, new world is quickly formed by the attack and the ruthlessness of business. Luhrmann has given himself a huge challenge with an overload of themes, styles, events and characters. He holds it together and delivers a huge entertainment with moments of greatness. Members FeCamargo Posted November 18, 2008 Members Report Share Posted November 18, 2008 Mais uma crítica positiva de Revolutionary Road: I saw Revolutionary Road over the weekend, and moderated a panel Saturday night with director Sam Mendes, Leonardo DiCaprio (nominated three times), Kate Winslet (nominated five times), Oscar-winner Kathy Bates and theater actor Michael Shannon (W.), cinematographer Roger Deakins (nominated seven times) and composer Thomas Newman (nominated eight times). First, do read Richard Yates' 1961 debut novel. The adaptation by Justin Haythe is very close; some scenes are staged exactly the way they were originally written. Is the movie as great as Yates' novel? No. But Yates never caught the popular imagination, never sold more than 12,000 copies of any of his seven novels, because he was too searing, too critical of his characters. He held no hope for couples like the Wheelers. He dissected them as though they were pinned insects. Mendes definitely warms up the book. The movie offers some possibility of hope for the rest of us. It lives and breathes. As do DiCaprio and Winslet, reunited more than a decade after Titanic. She always gives strong performances, but runs with the layered role of deeply unhappy housewife April Wheeler. She's smart and trapped and angry and resigned and still in love with the person she once thought her husband could be. How many women are in that position? What happens when you face up to the idea that your mate will not or cannot become his best self? DiCaprio, who has never before played a husband and father, is well-cast as the 29-year-old Frank Wheeler, who wants to be more special than he is, but settles for less. (The Bohemian intellectual side of this couple is downplayed here.) How many men lead what Thoreau called "lives of quiet desperation" as they try to live up to their wives' expectations, and often wind up disappointing them? It doesn't have to be the 50s for this to ring true. Revolutionary Road, produced by Scott Rudin after years of arrested development, is strictly an art-house play--and should score with the Academy. Mendes takes a more realistic and less stylized approach to this dysfunctional suburban family than he did on the Oscar-winning American Beauty. The entire ensemble is first-rate: Shannon got a rousing round of applause at my screening for his role as the insane truth-teller who cuts through all the crap. As 3 horas de duração do filme não me preocupa, filmes épicos geralmente são assim mesmo (SDA, Titanic, Gladiador, etc...) O Luhrmann em seus filmes sempre conseguiu uma química inegável entre seus protagonistas(DiCaprio e Danes, Kidman e McGregor). Um dos aspectos muito elogiado de Austrália é a química entre Nicole e Hugh. Seria o filme o "remédio" para tantos anos premiando filmes contemporâneos e violentos? Será que os grandes épicos estão de volta ao Kodak Theather? Me parece que sim. Fico feliz em ter apostado nele no bolão. A respeito de Revolutionary Road: ótimas críticas, mas nada perto de No Country ou There Will be Blood. O que, para fins de competição, é ótimo. Afinal, ano passado, mal tinha começado dezembro e muita gente já dava como certa a vitória de No Country no Oscar. Slumdog Millionarie, é impressão minha ou não se revelou aquela coisa toda? Muita gente esperava críticas enloquecidas, mas elas foram apenas muito boas. Não foi como Juno ou Pequena Miss Sunshine. Acredito que o filme está fora da disputa. Frost/Nixon vem bem no RT. Parece que vocês não se verão livre de Ron Howard tão cedo assim.
