É que é difícil imaginar que um sujeito seja indicado a diretor e o seu filme seja ignorado em filme, havendo a possibilidade de termos até 10 indicados a filme. Esse Drive é tão anti-Oscar assim ? Um, não é indicado há 17 anos, o outro ganhou Cannes e foi lembrado na grande maioria dos prêmios da crítica, que dão incentivo cada vez maior a um filme atípico para o Oscar. Sei não, viu... De lá pra cá ele fez Descontruindo Harry, sucesso de crítica, Match Point, mega sucesso de crítica e bem sucedido nas bilheterias, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, novamente os dois casos. Gustavo ressalta que Allen é um mestre não indicado há 17 anos mas a própria Academia o esnobou quando ele foi um franco favorito (o roteiro de Vicky Cristina Barcelona) e quando caiu nas graças da crítica (a direção de Match Point). E há o peso de o filme ser uma comédia. Mas eis minha observação acerca do caso Allen: A esnobada da Academia em anos em que Allen podia facilmente ter figurado entre os finalistas claramente demonstra certo cansaço da Academia para com um diretor longe de sua celebrada excelencia. Estavam esperando ele voltar à velha forma para ser reconhecido novamente, em caso similar aos de Martin Scorsese e Meryl Streep (esses, no entanto, para ganhar). Midnight in Paris foi exaltado como um Allen de volta à grande forma, um filme imaginativo e reverente a grandes artistas, enxergado por muita gente influente como uma expiação do próprio Allen às suas proprias influencias. Pra uma gente que vota com o coração [infelizmente apenas com o coração], pode vir a ser um prato cheio. E é um hit de bilheteria. Drive é hit de Cannes, premiado por lá, e isso sempre confere status. A desculpa de que tem agradado às associações de críticos me parece uma superestimação meio infundada, visto que a crítica tem premiado o filme mas de forma moderada, longe de unanimidade - o que gera força de fato. E mais: fora Brooks, o filme ou Refn em si não ganharam nenhum dos mais influentes (LA, NY, Chicago...). Mas concordo que o filme pode cair nas graças da ala mais liberal da Academia, a mesma que tem garantido filmes mais autorais e ousados, mas acho que a concorrencia aí vai ser acirrada por Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy e A Árvore da Vida. Por isso acho, hoje, que no final das contas Allen pode perder a vaga para Malick, não para Refn. Drive me soa muito mais como um Marcas da Violencia.
